Luppoaika - Reindeer's lunch

On luppoaika.

Menu'ssa on laji mustaluppo (Bryoria fuscescens).

It is the time of late spring when there is plenty of snow and the old, partly melted and again frozen snow is hard, almost as steel (in the photos the new snow has covered the hard crust).

Reindeers are in trouble to dig the Cladonia lichens through the snow. Or they would be in trouble if the Bryoria fuscescens lichen would not be growing on the branches of Scots pine. And as the snow of about 70 cm deep is hard, reindeers can reach up with their lips and tongue.

Only pieces of Scots pine bark under the trees of Kotovaara hill tell that the reindeers have already had their lunch.
