Common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) resides in the old forest of Jyppyra hill (to the left) and Kotovaara hill (to the right). It likes to sit on tops of old dead pines and watch over the Devil's creek. Today I saw it on the Kotovaara side. The observation was the first of spring 2006 for Common kestrel in Varrio Nature Reserve.

The pond in the Devil's creek (in the left hand corner) was still frozen, and there was still plenty of snow in the shady spots on the bottom of the creek.
